Electrum, a leading Polish Climate Tech company, announces the start of construction works on a 42.2 MW photovoltaic farm near the refinery in Mažeikiai, the only one of its kind in the Baltic states. This project is a key element of the facility’s modernization program and industrial decarbonization efforts in Europe.
Electrum is proud to announce the launch of construction of a photovoltaic farm near the refinery in Mažeikiai. The project, commissioned by ORLEN Lietuva – part of the ORLEN S.A. Group – involves the construction of a 42.2 MW solar power plant, including the installation of 69,120 photovoltaic panels, 116 inverters, 16 MV/LV transformer stations, and approximately 37 km of medium-voltage cable. The farm will cover an area of around 62 hectares – the equivalent of 87 full-size football fields.
The scope of work also includes the construction of support structures, site fencing, internal and access roads, site lighting, a grounding system, and a technical protection system. The energy generated by the farm will be transferred via a medium-voltage line to existing switchgear located within the Mažeikiai refinery.
“The launch of construction of the photovoltaic farm near the Mažeikiai refinery marks another step in our mission to support the decarbonization of industry. We are pleased that our team’s experience in delivering RES projects in Poland is now being utilized beyond the country’s borders. Our proprietary EMACS system will also be implemented in this project, further enhancing its efficiency and security,” said Tomasz Taff, Chief Commercial Officer at Electrum.
The contract for the project was signed in July 2024, with construction scheduled to begin in spring 2025. Project completion is planned for December 2025.
