Energy storage systems are an essential component of power systems based on renewable energy sources. They help balance energy supply and demand, thereby enabling the stable operation of the grid. In Poland, this technology is gaining particular importance.
A comprehensive approach to energy storage systems for industry
At Electrum, we offer comprehensive services in the design, construction, and management of energy storage systems.
Our solutions support price arbitrage, frequency regulation, hybridization with renewables, and the improvement of industrial process efficiency – delivering measurable benefits in the form of cost savings, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
Energy storage systems - more than just a battery
“Building an effective energy storage system that delivers measurable results is about far more than supplying the core technology, such as a battery – control systems and IT infrastructure are equally important. These are what enable effective communication with grid operators and energy traders.”
Paweł Zadroga, R&D Engineer at Electrum
This is why we provide all the necessary infrastructure and advanced software, ensuring that the investment in an energy storage system operates effectively, efficiently, and generates a real return.
Our proprietary EMACS SCADA system enables advanced monitoring, optimization, and integration of storage systems with other energy assets.
Our experience - an energy storage system for a facility that cannot afford power interruptions
In 2023, at the alu-frost industrial facility, we created a test environment for an innovative energy storage system designed to maintain power supply to a production hall during disturbances in the supply network.
The storage system was developed in collaboration with Wrocław University of Science and Technology as part of the international MESH4U project.
“The alu-frost facility is engaged in the production of laser-cut metal components. An interruption to the cutting process means lost material and costs. And since the facility is on the outskirts of the city, where energy supply can be unstable, power interruptions occur fairly frequently. The storage system operating in UPS mode makes it possible to maintain power supply or to shut down the process in a controlled manner and limit losses.”
Paweł Zadroga, R&D Engineer at Electrum
We see firsthand how energy storage systems can work in concert with processes that require a continuous power supply to sensitive equipment. It is an excellent response to disturbances in the supply network.
The energy storage system at alu-frost operates in conjunction with a photovoltaic installation mounted on the roofs of the production halls, increasing its efficiency, flexibility, and resilience to external power supply interruptions.
“An innovative and intelligent algorithm can predict and regulate the energy storage process, adapting to demand, tariffs, and even weather conditions. An additional advantage of the solution is the possibility of price arbitrage – purchasing energy from the grid when it is cheaper and using it for one’s own needs when grid energy prices are high.”
Marcin Oksimowicz, Head of the Project Department at Electrum
Energy storage systems are a key solution supporting the energy transition and increasing the flexibility of energy systems. They make it possible to accumulate energy during periods of overproduction and deploy it during periods of higher demand – stabilising power grids, increasing energy independence, and supporting the integration of renewable energy sources.
