MESH4U

The fundamental transformation of energy systems toward a low-emission economy is a key challenge for energy storage concepts.
The aim of the MESH4U project was to develop and test multiple energy storage nodes – from small and medium-sized enterprises (industry), to solutions providing operational flexibility for end users in local energy networks and distribution system operators.
MESH4U combines several types of energy storage – electrical, thermal, mechanical, and chemical – and their technologies to maximize technical and economic utilization for different needs and conditions.
A holistic approach to a multifunctional energy storage node provides flexibility for owners and operators of renewable energy sources, industry, households, and e-mobility solutions.

The MESH4U project, through the features listed below, aligns with European energy strategies and the framework of the ERA-NET-SES program:
Sustainable
By maximizing the integration of renewable energy sources using multi-type energy storage in flexible power supply systems, MESH4U will contribute to the decarbonization of energy systems and increased system efficiency.
Smart
Through ICT solutions, monitoring, control, and automation. Integration of all energy storage node components and cooperation with local and overlapping energy systems that include generation and consumption will ensure greater reliability and security of local energy supply, as well as technical and economic capability to work with the distribution network or in island mode.
Competitive
Thanks to new business models, direct marketing, flexibility, network service offerings, and especially through its industrial impact and potential contribution to the European energy sector, the project solution can be scaled and enable energy distribution in a socially acceptable and economically accessible way for communities in international markets.
The project is co-financed by the National Centre for Research and Development under the ERA-NET Smart Grids Plus Joint Call 2019 on Energy Storage Solutions (MICall2019).
