Green Capital has signed a contract for the construction of a utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 80 MW and 320 MWh in Lwówek Śląski, in Lower Silesia. The general contractor is Electrum, a Polish company specializing in the delivery and long-term maintenance of energy infrastructure. The facility is scheduled to be commissioned in the third quarter of 2027.

The project in Lwówek Śląski is among the largest energy storage developments in Poland and aligns with Green Capital’s consistent strategy in the field of energy storage. The company is developing a portfolio of BESS projects across various locations in Poland and internationally, responding to the growing demand of the power system for flexible balancing resources. Energy storage facilities play a key role in integrating renewable energy sources and stabilizing the National Power System.

“The energy storage facility in Lwówek Śląski is a project of genuine system-level importance. A facility of this scale strengthens the local power infrastructure and supports the integration of renewable energy sources in the region. By selecting Electrum as the general contractor, we aimed to partner with a company that assumes long-term responsibility for the reliability of the installation, not just its construction,” concludes Michał Polanowski, CEO of Green Capital S.A.

Comprehensive EPC scope and high-voltage infrastructure

The contract covers the full EPC scope: the preparation of detailed design documentation, the supply of energy storage technology, execution of construction works, and integration of the storage facility with the power grid, including the construction of complete high-voltage infrastructure. The agreement is complemented by a five-year O&M contract and a long-term service agreement (LTSA), ensuring operational stability and cost predictability for the investor throughout the project’s entire lifecycle. Construction works are set to begin in the second quarter of 2026.

The facility will be equipped with Electrum’s proprietary digital systems: the PPC Renedium platform for managing the unit’s operation on the energy market, and the EMACS EMS/SCADA control and monitoring system. These solutions will enable the optimization of the installation’s operation, both from an operational and market perspective, which will directly translate into the project’s economic performance.

“Increasingly, investors expect not only the construction of an energy storage facility, but also the assumption of long-term responsibility for its reliable and market-efficient operation,” says Tomasz Taff, Member of the Management Board at Electrum. “We are pleased by the confidence the investor has placed in us by entrusting us with the delivery and long-term maintenance of a project of this scale. By combining EPC competencies, long-term O&M, an LTSA agreement, and our proprietary EMS and PPC systems, we offer an approach in which the energy storage facility becomes a fully controllable and predictable system asset,” he adds.
