Cybersecurity
in the Energy Sector.

Electrum’s Perspective

At Electrum, we operate at the intersection of development, engineering, and operation of energy infrastructure. We design, construct, and oversee the largest renewable energy assets in Poland, implementing proprietary solutions to optimize the performance of installations.

Amid the growing scale of cyber threats in the energy sector, we do not regard security as an addition — it constitutes an integral component of our operational strategy.

Awareness as the First Step

Cybersecurity begins with organizational culture. This is why we actively raise awareness of threats among our teams and partners, integrating security considerations into everyday project processes. We support this with training, procedures, and practical scenarios drawn from industry experience.

A Systemic Approach

We recognize that effective defense against threats requires a coherent, long-term strategy based on the latest technologies. It also demands well-planned and consistently executed processes, which we continuously update.

We have implemented ISO 9001, ensuring consistency and high quality of processes across all areas of our operations, thereby establishing a solid foundation for further strengthening security. We are currently in the process of implementing ISO/IEC 27001 as well as the identified requirements arising from NIS2.

Electrum’s
Proprietary Solutions

At Electrum, we manage the largest renewable energy facilities in Poland — our O&M department oversees them, among other things, through our 24/7 Dispatch Center. We have also developed a range of proprietary solutions, whose safety and reliability are verified through regular audits and testing. These include EMACS, a system that integrates, processes, and visualizes data from multiple information sources on a single unified platform, as well as Renedium, a universal electric power controller. Our tools are also applied in research projects such as DIEGO and FlexBIT, where we focus, among other areas, on developing effective EMS (Energy Management System) solutions for controlling, monitoring, and optimizing energy production and consumption.

The Scale of Cyberattacks Is Growing!

The Scale of Threats

The number of attacks on critical infrastructure continues to grow year by year. According to the 2024 Annual Report on the activities of CERT Polska, the energy sector in Poland recorded 4,632 reported security incidents. Among the predominant threats are ransomware campaigns, operations of advanced persistent threat (APT) groups, data manipulation, attempts to disrupt service availability, and intrusions into the control processes of industrial systems (ICS/SCADA).

Investments in renewable energy are increasingly becoming targets of cybercriminal activity. This results not only from their growing significance in national and international energy policy, but also from the complexity of the project ecosystem — encompassing multiple suppliers, subcontractors, system operators, and IoT devices — which creates numerous vectors for potential attacks.

Furthermore, as highlighted in reports by ENISA, the NIS Cooperation Group, and leading industry analyses (e.g., Mandiant, Dragos), the European energy sector remains a focus of state-sponsored threat actors, for whom the destabilization of energy supply can serve as an instrument of geopolitical pressure.

Partnership
as a Safeguard

Last but by no means least, we believe that an effective response to threats requires cooperation across industry segments as well as with partners from other sectors. The analysis of case studies, knowledge exchange, and joint testing of solutions enhance the resilience not only of the energy ecosystem itself, but also of the interconnected domains.

This is why we actively seek partners ready to collaborate, share experience, and develop solutions that will strengthen the security of energy infrastructure on both the national and international scale.

About Electrum

We are a leader in Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and Climate Tech. We design and implement clean energy technologies that redefine the future of energy and climate. Together with our partners, we are building a world based on sustainable and innovative energy solutions that protect the environment and support the development of modern societies.

We are constantly expanding our portfolio with new projects and accelerating the global energy transition megawatt by megawatt.

We have completed nearly 400 energy facility and installation projects, manage almost 3 GW of power, and generate over 4 GW of power from wind and solar farms, making us one of the leaders of the energy transition in the region.

At Electrum, we create and implement solutions and build projects based on the idea of an individual energy mix, maintaining a balance between social and environmental responsibility and economic aspects.
